Abstract

The distribution protocol dictates that after a delineated festival route, follows a glamorous theatrical release. But the current pandemic has closed theaters, confining the audience. Now films are shown on a computer screen; no more red
carpet than the one in your living room. The covid has planted uncertainty in the audiovisual sector. During the worst part of the sanitarian crisis, Ecuador’s government dissolved ICCA, the only institution dedicated to film. This decision
increased the usual problems of Ecuadorian cinema production and distribution. Faced with an uncertain future, national filmmakers share the facts on the adversities they are facing to keep on producing their projects in times of pandemic.
