Prometeo Deportado and the Latin American Language

Abstract

In 1993 Fernando Mieles, filmmaker born in Guayaquil city, was deported from Spain with a group of ecuadorians. This experience marked his first feature Prometeo deportado an important film for the local cinema. This film gathers on its plot and form, the Prometheus myth, reviews the costumbrism and gets a direct influence from the New Latin American Cinema. Until the movie can find its own voice through a universe filled with characters who represent Ecuador and at the same time mock the Ecuadorian ways.This essay analyzes the visual language, the plot, the acting method involved and the way it confronts the genre.

He studied a Master's degree in Scriptwriting for film and television from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​Spain (2012) and has a Master's degree in Cultural Studies, mention in Arts and Visual Studies from the Simón Bolívar Andean University in Quito, Ecuador. General producer and co-scriptwriter of the documentary Hasta el fin de Delfín, winner for Ecuador for the DOCTV series (Documentaries for television). Degree in Communication from the Catholic University of Ecuador. He is a scriptwriter, producer, and audiovisual director. He is also a university teacher in various educational institutions.
